- The Global Protocol for Community-scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions is designed to harmonize emissions measurement and greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting process for cities. The Protocol was released at the UNFCCC Climate Change meetings in Bonn by C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, with input from the World Resources Institute (WRI).

- The report of the eighth UN-REDD Policy Board Meeting highlights that the Board: agreed to establish a working group on the review of the Policy Board; welcomed the improvement in National Programme reports; and commended work undertaken on the Social and Environmental Principles and Criteria (SEPC) and stressed that SEPC need to be fully aligned to the UNFCCC.

- The African preparatory workshop ahead of the fifth Meeting of the Parties (MOP 5) to the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) helped African countries consolidate common positions on issues of relevance to Africa. The meeting was attended by 25 different African countries, and worked to finalize the draft AEWA Plan of Action for Africa.

- At a meeting in China, CITES Secretary-General Scanlon emphasized the role of e-permitting systems in helping build the essential foundations for environmental sustainability and sustainable development. Countries also discussed the role of South-South cooperation, and recommended various projects including one between Brazil, Namibia and China on using new e-permitting technologies to ensure legal, sustainable and traceable trade in listed species.
- France and the Slovak Republic signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MOU). They are now the 39th and 40th signatories, respectively. The MOU will become effective in the two countries on 1 June 2012.
